We work for our members in a variety of ways
Your Personal Care Assistant (PCA) is here to help you create the optimal healthcare experience and to do it in a way that is personalized for you. Your PCA will coordinate your care, assist you in developing a wellness plan, and be your advocate with insurance companies and hospitals. Here are some examples of ways we assist our members:
Prior to having a Personal Care Assistant (PCA), Michelle found that juggling all of her health concerns felt impossible. A few months ago, Michelle found herself with a very serious throat infection, and at the same time, exacerbated an old shoulder injury. She considered an urgent care clinic as a first response, but decided to see how Kaigo could help instead. After explaining her condition and answering a few questions, her PCA sprung into action! In less than an hour, her PCA was able to connect with her physician and get a prescription for antibiotics sent to a nearby pharmacy. Her PCA also scheduled appointments for her to see two specialists the very next week. Next, her PCA began crafting a Personal Health Plan which included a dietary section to help her deal with her inflammation problems.
"She was in constant communication with me regarding my schedule. She even called my insurance company to find the highest rated doctors in-network so I could rest easy that my visits would be completely covered. I definitely needed help, as I was very ill, in severe pain and needed to see several doctors and specialists. Managing chronic illnesses and taking care of injuries that come up unexpectedly due to my condition is a lot to add to my already full plate. I’m very busy, and having to go through several avenues in order to take care of myself was simply getting overwhelming! I came close to putting it all on a back burner before I became a Kaigo member. I am grateful to say that I am feeling better and on my way to optimal health. I don’t know what I’d do without my Personal Care Assistant!"

Baby on the way
Maryam was 3 months pregnant and very anxious when she connected with Kaigo. She needed to prepare for her new baby, but was overwhelmed with all the information she had to process. Her Personal Care Assistant prepared Maryam and her husband Todd for what to expect and ways to ensure the healthy pregnancy of their first child. He immediately got on the phone with Maryam's insurance company to perform a thorough analysis and help them fully understand the terms of their coverage in order to avoid surprise medical bills in the future. While reviewing the insurance details, he found that the insurance company will pay for a monthly prenatal yoga class - a welcome surprise to Maryam!
Next, Maryam's PCA enrolled her soon to be born son with her insurance company to get him an ID card before his birthday. She then reviewed a long list of pediatricians and found one that fit Maryam's preferences. A few weeks after that, Maryam received her Personal Health Plan, which was carefully crafted by her PCA with some help from her new pediatrician. The plan included information on breastfeeding that came with an instructional DVD, a nutritional pregnancy guide (emphasizing nutrition to handle gestational diabetes that Maryam developed during her pregnancy), a fitness plan and a post pregnancy plan for getting back to her pre-pregnancy weight and optimal health levels.
"I remember sending a lengthy question to my Personal Care Assistant when I learned I had developed gestational diabetes. It was about 5am one morning and wasn't expecting to get a response almost immediately! It is so comforting to have someone that I could truly rely on through this new experience".

Help at Work
Abby, the founder and CEO of a fast growing 18 person technology company, was worried about employee burnout despite her efforts and focus on employee wellness. She had gone the extra mile by offering a very comprehensive benefit package, free meals and a super cool game room. Her worries began to grow when Jimmy, one of her best engineers who was usually focused, energetic and result-oriented started showing up to work late, appearing disorganized and becoming less productive. During lunch with Jimmy one day, Abby convinced him to seek help from a therapist. After a lengthy phone call with his insurance company, Jimmy was shocked to discover that his condition was not approved for coverage. Jimmy decided to find a therapist around his house and paid a hefty out-of-pocket amount for a few sessions.
"I couldn’t believe it had come to this, pleading with an insurance agent to let me go to therapy. I couldn’t bear the thought of having a stranger tell me that my condition was not legitimate. My PCA was instrumental in dealing with our insurance company and helping me get through a very tough period in my life - true advocates!"
Jimmy, Kaigo Member, SF
Abby heard about Kaigo from a close friend and decided to connect Jimmy to the company's team of Personal Care Assistants (PCA). After a brief chat with Jimmy, his PCA got right to work! She called his insurance company and after a number of lengthy conversations, was able to get almost all of his therapy bills reimbursed. His care team is now working to create a personalized care plan for Jimmy which will include his physical fitness & exercise plan, mental fitness & stress relief with a section on relaxation strategies, a nutritional section that includes a healthy, high energy packed diet for people in high stress positions like Jimmy. With assistance from Kaigo, Abby is redesigning her benefit package to include a PCA and a private physician for every employee. We hope to work with Abby, Jimmy and the rest of their company as they take their company to new heights!
